Perry Appeared in 'On Stranger Tides' and 'Blue Crush'

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Tamayo Perry, a surfer, lifeguard, and actor who appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Blue Crush, has died in a shark attack off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii. Perry was 49 years old.

Perry was attacked while surfing at Gas Chamber Beach on Oahu's North Shore on Sunday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The type of shark that attacked Perry has not been confirmed.

Perry was a well-known figure in the Honolulu surfing community. He was an eight-year veteran of Honolulu Ocean Safety and was a renowned Pipeline rider. Perry also worked as a lifeguard on the set of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi released a statement expressing his condolences to Perry's family and friends. "Tamayo was a true waterman who loved the ocean and his community," Blangiardi said. "He will be deeply missed by all who knew him."

The shark attack is the first fatal shark attack in Hawaii since 2019. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is investigating the incident.
